A rope chain is made of small links twisted around each other in a spiral, which is why it throws light from every angle instead of just the front — turn it and the whole chain flickers. This one is 925 sterling silver plated in rose gold, a copper-rich finish that reads warm and pink rather than yellow.
What you're choosing
- Widths: 1.8 MM, 2.7 MM, 3.7 MM, 4.6 MM, 5.8 MM and 7 MM. 1.8–2.7 MM is the classic pendant chain; 4.6 MM and up wears well on its own.
- Lengths: 16 to 30 inches. 16″–18″ sits high at the neck, 20″–22″ is the common men's length, 24″ and longer drops to the chest.
- Clasp: lobster clasp on the lighter widths, box clasp on the heavier ones.
Caring for plated silver
The rose gold is a surface layer over the silver, so treat it as a finish rather than a metal. Off before showers, swimming and the gym; wipe dry with a soft cloth after wearing; keep it out of cologne and chlorine. Skip silver polishing cloths — they're made to abrade tarnish off bare silver and will cut through the plating.
The same rope is available in yellow gold plated and plain 925 sterling silver, and in solid 10K and 14K gold.
