A square signet ring in solid 14K yellow gold, cut as an open back. The top is the same flat square plate you would get on a closed-back signet — the difference is underneath.
On an open-back ring the underside of the plate is hollowed out rather than filled in with gold. Less metal means a lower price, and it means the ring wears lighter and sits closer to the finger instead of standing off it. Looking down at your hand you cannot tell the two apart: the top face reads exactly like a closed back.
The two sizes
- Small — 8.5 x 9 mm, about 2.8 g. Neat enough for a pinky, and the size most women choose.
- Large — 11 x 11.5 mm, about 4 g. A full men's face, with room for a crest or a two-letter monogram.
The face arrives flat and unengraved, ready for a monogram, an initial or a crest — and it is a clean, quiet ring if you choose to wear it plain. Cast solid, hand-polished and fully sizeable, in sizes 5 through 15 including every half size.
