A classic oval signet in solid gold, cut as a closed back.
Closed back means the underside of the oval plate is backed solid rather than hollowed out. It uses more gold, it feels heavier on the hand, and it gives an engraver a full depth of metal to cut into. That is why it is the traditional choice for a deep-cut crest or monogram.
Choose 14K or 10K, yellow or white. 14K is 58.5% gold, richer and warmer. 10K is 41.7% gold, harder and more scratch-resistant, and more affordable for the same size of ring.
Three face sizes:
- Small — about 9 to 9.5 x 10 to 11 mm, 1.7 to 2.3 g
- Medium — about 11 to 12 x 13 to 14.5 mm, 4.2 to 6.6 g
- Large — about 12.5 to 14.5 x 15 to 17.5 mm, 7.5 to 13.4 g
Face sizes vary by a millimetre or two between the metals, because the rings are cast from different blanks. 10K white gold is available in small only.
Every ring is cast solid and hand-polished, and is fully sizeable. Ring sizes 5 to 15, half sizes included. White gold is rhodium plated.
