About moissanite

Moissanite is a real gemstone — silicon carbide — grown in a lab rather than pulled out of the ground. It is not glass, not cubic zirconia, and not a plated coating over something else.

It is the hardest stone used in jewelry after diamond: 9.25 on the Mohs scale, against diamond's 10. That hardness is why it shrugs off everyday knocks, and why it will never cloud, yellow or go dull the way cheaper stones do. Moissanite also bends light more sharply than diamond, so it throws more colored flashes — the rainbow sparkle you see when it catches the light.

Caring for your piece

• Wash it in warm water with a drop of mild dish soap. Work gently between the stones with a soft toothbrush, rinse, and dry fully with a soft cloth.
• Take it off before you swim, shower, work out or sleep. Chlorine, salt water and sweat dull a piece faster than anything else.
• Put your jewelry on last, once lotion, cologne and hairspray have dried.
• Store it dry and on its own, in a pouch or lined box. Loose pieces scratch each other.
• Never use bleach, ammonia, abrasive paste or toothpaste.

In plain sterling silver, the metal naturally darkens over time and a silver polishing cloth brings it straight back. If you chose a gold-tone or rose gold-tone finish, wipe it with a soft dry cloth only — polishing cloths and silver dips strip plating.
