This is the signet most people picture when they say "signet ring": a solid rectangular plate, a fully closed back, and a high polish. The face measures 7.0 x 8.5 mm and sits on a smooth, tapered shank in solid 14K yellow gold (58.5% pure gold).
Closed back means the underside of the plate is filled in rather than hollowed out. Two things follow from that. The ring wears flat and comfortable against the finger with no open edge to catch, and there is solid metal behind the face, which is what an engraver wants when cutting a deep monogram or a crest. At 3.28 grams of gold it has real presence on the hand without tipping into statement territory.
The face is left completely flat and blank. Take it to any engraver for initials, a monogram, a date, or a family crest. Engraving is not included in the price.
